Scott Overholser DDS Gives Back to Society Through Vital Bridges

February 3rd, 2010

For people with thriving careers, finding the time or even the need to give back to society is rare, though not unheard of. One of those who contributes to the “not unheard of” statistic is a Chicago-based dentist: Scott Overholser DDS.

In fact, Scott Overholser DDS doesn’t have just one career: he has several. The Indiana University School of Dentistry alumnus holds a dental license in Chicago and Indiana and a real estate license in Chicago. With his proven expertise in organizational management, performance management, and marketing skills, he has helped numerous dentists improve the performance and bottom line of their practices.

Giving as much of his dedication to his dental, management consultancy and real estate consultancy careers as he does to other aspects of his life, Scott Overholser DDS is a volunteer for Vital Bridges. Seeking to help people embattled by the life-altering effects of HIV/AIDS, Vital Bridges is a non-profit organization that has operated in the Chicagoland area for twenty years. Primarily concerned with delivering high quality basic services to people suffering from HIV/AIDS, it also enables them to live fruitful and fulfilling lives by way of its counseling, case management, and education services.

Volunteering at Vital Bridges gives Scott Overholser DDS the opportunity to give back to his community.

Dr Scott Overholser DDS as a Dentist

August 13th, 2009

Dr Scott Overholser DDS provides all facets of dentistry to his patients, but the core of his practice lies in cosmetic dentistry. Although amalgam, the conventional name for silver fillings, has been used for over 100 years in dentistry with great success, newer composite filling materials offer superior biocombatability, last longer, and have the added bonus of replicating lost tooth structure in a cosmetically pleasing manner.   These composite materials actually bond to enamel, in essence “gluing” them to the tooth, whereas the older generation amalgam fillings sit passively within the tooth allowing bacteria to “leak” around them.

Another service Dr Scott Overholser DDS offers his patients is metal-free restorations.  While this includes composite fillings, it also encompasses all-ceramic crowns, bridges, and onlays/inlays.  New-generation porcelain, which is fabricated in a lab under microscopes for precision fitting, has become stronger, better fitting, and more economical.  These are just a few ways in which cosmetic dentistry has improved the lives of patients.
